[WvS] [a classic modern canoe] [stair] [stool] [skill]

Do-It-Yourself

[Canoe] Building a Canoe
"La Mina" (from the Dutch word "laminaat") was a project in Calgary, Alberta. It was my intention to build a strip-plank canoe "on the cheap" using thin plywood strips. As happens often with that type of projects, winter came, the car had to go back into the garage ... end of project :).

[stair] Railing and Spindles
The existing stairs and railing in our 1881 house were rather unique and nice. The problem was that upstairs the railing was taken out to make way for a tiny bathroom. Time to break out the walls and rebuild the railing around the stairwell, which included recreating the spindles.

[stool] White Oak Stool
After a large renovation, there was quite a bit of white oak left, enough for making a kitchen table. I designed it, but got a local furniture maker to build it. With the very last oak boards I built myself a small stool matching the design of the table.

[skill] Skillsaw Table and Track
In Nova Scotia I've been working on some projects where you are off-grid and have to rely on a small generator. Also, for that situation I didn't want to spend hundreds of dollars for tools that I have already in the garage. You better make them yourself and watching some YouTube helps with ideas.
